5 Questions-Work for YourselfI remember that day like it was yesterday.

It was 6 p.m. on a Wednesday. With sweaty palms and a shaky voice, I declared my independence from my 9-to-5. Suffice it to say, I was scared out of my mind. Don’t get me wrong; I was ecstatic about spreading my wings to fly. Yet I couldn’t help but second-guess my decision. After all, I thought, I didn’t have a solid income plan, and those little monthly memos called bills weren’t very forgiving.

In retrospect, I engaged in a mental tug of war. My left brain (think Judge Judy) wanted the security of a 9-to-5, while my rebellious right brain (think Beyonce last December) wanted to be set free!

Like Sasha Fierce, I wanted the freedom to give my very best to the world on my own terms —  beyond a corporate cubicle or… err, record label. And I quickly realized that it meant working for myself. So, after several pep talks and countless prayers, I bid farewell to my traditional job. That was two years ago. Since then, i’ve learned a ton about what it takes to succeed at working for yourself. But I’ll spare you the details and share the cliff notes instead.
