Kevin - after putting a good deal of time in the proposition the social media is useful, I am skeptical. The past few years has certainly been a BOOM for the likes of LinkedIn - recession as social media's "killer app". While one might think that social media is applicable to the fact that 50-80% of jobs are filled through relationship, I've been told by recruiters that that they won't accept Linkedin referrals.

I do think that a competent, perhaps commission funded, job search coaching would have "legs". A small group model might work. Might work online. I'd think a major social media - or perhaps national temp agency - could roll out such a thing an gain huge mind-share. Would depend on a good coaching methodology that can be managed and taught.

Agreed. Social media is critical in more ways than one. As an opener, as a place to catch someone's eye or just simply to network. I've gotten many of my freelance assignments directly or indirectly via FB Friends and theirs....Twitter may (or may not ) be a good place to make the initial connection, but as previously mentioned, it's all about building and maintaining relationships.

Kevin ,

Although I am not a "professional", I am having a hard time getting through to hiring managers and HR, but they don't seem to return my calls. For someone that is on the clerical side of healthcare, I don't know how to conquer this situation. What shoud I do, knock on doors to get a job?

I'm interested in more information about Job Search Boot Camp Program:
How long are the 12 webinars each? and
over what time period (frequency) are they given? September, October or ??,
Also, exactly when are they given so that I can plan them in advance?

Thanks for the help..

Hello and thank you for this article, but I need more. Am scouring the internet for information and training on this very topic. I keep hearing that LinkedIn IS a powerful tool and the key to success, and I know I am not using it properly. I need help.
