Lorena,

You are absolutely right in your description of a day in the life of an HR person. I am going through this right now for a company I do consulting with. Some days, I dread posting an ad because I know many resumes will come through that don't come close to what I am advertising for. I don't understand why a person with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Finance would apply for a field Superintendent position in an underground storm, sewer, pipeline construction company.

It would really help if people would completely read the advertisement, not just blast their resume for any open position. I understand people are desparate for jobs, but take good care of your career and only apply for jobs you are qualified for.

[...] Now that I’ve spent some time demystifying what is happening behind the scenes, it’s time for you to understand what the Pre-Interview Test typically looks like. Keep in mind, this really isn’t an identifiable “test”, rather it is a process that most companies follow in some form that I’ll describe. [...]

Michelle,

Unfortunately, you are not alone. To answer your question though, the second part will be posted today.

I hope you will join us for Lorena's call on Tuesday!

Best,

Kevin

After more then 3 decades of not-one-moment -of-unemployment, I'm now on Month 3 since being laid off in a 50% RIF at the small company that I'd been at for 8 years. Part I of your article is terrifying. How do I make sure not to miss Part II? I am a senior professional in Clinical Research Operations and Data Management in the NJ/Philadelphia area.
